The Lady Behind the Business

Hello!  Welcome to Overdressedstore.com! My name is Lauren, and I am the creator and owner of Over Dressed.  I wanted to take a quick minute to share a little bit about the backstory of how this boutique came to fruition.  So, keep reading if you are at all interested.

When I started college (over 13 years ago, WHAT?!) I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life.  I assumed I would go into the medical field, because that is what always interested me (or so I thought).  Until one day I woke up and thought, "I think I need to go to business school!"  So I transferred to a different University, and majored in Business Management.  My senior year of college we were given a project to write a business plan for our dream business.  I immediately chose a women's clothing boutique.  See, I had always loved clothes, shoes, handbags, and accessories, but I couldn't always afford them.  I loved looking through magazines to see what the latest trends were, and how I could somehow make it work with what I already had in my closet. 

So about this project.  I wrote an entire business plan around this boutique with the concept being that we would bring the the latest fashion trends to our customers at reasonable prices.  I wanted everyone to be able to shop at my store without breaking the bank.  At last though, that binder that held my business plan sat there for the last 9 years collecting dust.  I was offered a wonderful job right out of college and I spent the last 9 years with that same company.  I learned so much from that company, and I really believe I wouldn't have had the guts to take the leap of faith to open my own store without the lessons I learned there. 

So, here we are today.  In that business plan I wrote, the store I was going to open was going to be a brick and mortar concept.  Online shopping really wasn't a huge business platform yet.  Now 10 years later, our world has drastically changed, and I felt like starting with an online store would be best for me and my family.

Our concept at Over Dressed is simple.  We want women to feel and look their best without spending a ton of money.  Being a mom, I always had a hard time finding clothing that could fill several purposes.  Because if you are a mom, you know that we wear several hats on a daily basis (nurturer,  maid, taxi driver, chef, disciplinarian, lover to our spouse, teacher, nurse, etc.) and I wanted the pieces that we sell to be multipurpose so you can get the most out of your wardrobe.
